Tayebat Museum
For a fascinating look into Jeddah’s long and cosmopolitan past, take a trip to the Tayebat Museum for an amazingly curated representation of the city’s 2,500-year history. Located in the Al Faisaliyah district, the museum is housed in a complex with many rooms that re-create the traditional Hijazi architecture of the old city.
The museum’s four-floor collection has displays ranging from pre-Islamic artifacts, ancient Islamic manuscripts, old coins and weaponry to furniture, pottery and traditional Saudi dresses.
Al Balad region
Get a sense of the city’s extensive history by exploring Al Balad, the oldest part of Jeddah, where the city began. Though Al-Balad’s original city walls came down in the 1940s, its unique architecture and charm are preserved to this day. With the old city gates, historic mosques, a variety of traditional souqs (markets), and a museum, there’s plenty to see and do in the Al-Balad section of Jeddah.
Floating Mosque
The mosque doesn’t actually float but is built on the stilts surrounded by serene waters of Historic Jeddah. The city comes alive during the day and at night as the beaches and fountains are illuminated.
The mosque is open at all times but you can find many entertainment and accommodation options around it, such as the Movenpick Resorts, Radisson Blu Hotel or the Sheraton.
