How did the Esports Industry Evolve into a Market Worth Billions?

Evolution of the Esports Industry

Here’s one of the most fascinating histories to read about. Gamers and non-gamers would be equally interested to know how a home video game business turned into a billion-dollar esports industry over the last few decades. This history goes back to our childhood, an important part of the memories of many generations, creating huge revenues that stunned the world. With record speed, esports caught the attention of global markets and companies and made first-class stars compete with the most famous singers and actors, and provided us with adventurous, imaginary worlds that simulate our reality.

Many esports companies crossed boundaries while introducing the latest gaming technology in the hands of gamers. One such futuristic technology being the telo GameZ Lenovo Legion gaming phone. Looking ahead of market trends, telo GameZ has launched the most technologically advanced smartphone, specially designed for gamers who like to play on the go. Its revolutionary architecture has the world’s first customized horizontal UI, that allows the players to play in landscape mode. how did esports industry evolve

Now get ready for a beautiful journey through time with esports history dating all the way back to the seventies.

Esports in the ’70s

  Arcade Games - Esports

One of the most important features of this period is the spread of arcade games which were played on electronic machines located in gaming stores and markets and worked using coins.

We can say that video game consoles lived their early childhood in arcade machines. These games provided unique experiences for players, entering venues that mixed bold colorful lighting with sounds of games getting louder each second. These venues were teeming with players of all ages, choosing among many enticing options for the most popular games. It became an ideal place for young players to gather with their peers on weekends and summer holidays.

In 1973, the first electronic games championship was organized at Stanford University for Space War – created in the 1960s – where participating students competed to win a one-year subscription to Rolling Stone magazine.

The 1970s games were characterized by their simplicity and their reliance on text technology. Space Invader and Pong are one of the most famous games of that phase. Pong was released in the early ‘70s by Atari, an electronic table tennis game that gained great popularity and led many Atari competitors to imitate it. Space Invader also tops the list, as one of the oldest digital shooter games designed by Japanese developer Tomohiro Nishikado.

Esports in the ‘80s

  esports industry - pacman

The 1980s saw a technological and creative shift in the esports industry. Games became somewhat complex, having a wider narrative, and advanced gameplay levels, thanks to the use of 2D technologies that provided innovative visual styles not present in the ‘70s. New devices like Nintendo and Sega Genesis conquered all homes and captivated the hearts of players, young and old. Nintendo was one of the most beautiful gifts you could give to any player of the ‘80s!

Pac-Man topped the gaming scene around the world, followed quickly by Super Mario. Everyone loved the little red hat plumber who lived in the Mushroom Kingdom trying to fight bad guys and prevent Princess Peach from being kidnapped.

One major highlight of the ‘80s was the release of Tetris on Game Boy. Distinguished by its simple design, Tetris enabled users to enjoy 20 hours of playing with only a few batteries. Many portable gaming systems that came after Game Boy couldn’t compete or achieve the same popularity.

Esports in the ‘90s

The esports industry continued to develop rapidly in the 1990s. New features in electronic games were introduced using advanced technologies that mix 2D and 3D graphics, professional music, in addition to the emergence of PC and mobile games.

Read: Without Ralph Baer, we wouldn’t know video games.

Not to forget the internet’s massive contribution in revolutionizing the world of video games and forever changing the culture of esports. With the advent of online gaming consoles, hundreds of thousands of players around the world are playing and communicating like never before, despite their different geographical locations and cultural backgrounds.

The most famous games of that period, Sonic the Hedgehog and Street Fighter with its upgraded version, achieved widespread popularity and were among the most played games of the ‘90s. Sonic was Sega’s brainchild brought to life in 1991, characterized by its high speed, to compete with our beloved Italian plumber – Mario. The game was instantly popular and gained international recognition with a movie released in 2020 too!

Another major milestone of this era was the release of PlayStation, a device that replaced all previous gaming technologies. PlayStation came with many amazing features that gained the confidence of gamers and removed many competitors from the arena. Discs with expanded memory, allowing music lovers to put CDs of their favorite songs and many such cool features. PlayStation also introduced players to a modern-day gaming console.

Esports from 2000 – present day

It’s quite difficult to summarize this era within a few lines, but the most important thing that distinguished it was the creation of our mega-star YouTube in 2005. Grabbing the attention of gamers worldwide and providing them with an apt platform that they’ve waited decades for, players raced to create their own broadcast channels on YouTube, allowing fans to interact with them directly.

YouTube gained in popularity and the number of views and subscriptions for game channels reached millions. YouTube succeeded in being a leading platform for educational and entertainment content for esports. Gaming giants like Fortnite and FIFA created their own YouTube channels.

Entering the arena was Twitch in 2011, to compete with YouTube as a video broadcasting platform specializing in video games. The platform received nearly 15 million daily active users to view the content provided, equivalent to the total population of New York and Chicago combined! The platform also broke a record by hosting 436,000 viewers for a live broadcast of Bungie’s and Activision’s Destiny 2 premier.

The esports industry evolved massively in this period, using advanced technologies such as first-player perspective, third-player perspective, and fixed 3D graphics.

Famous games such as FIFA, Fortnite, PUBG, and Call of Duty have brought a lot to the esports scene, all of which we’re witnessing nowadays. Many world championships for the most popular games are being held at Kafu Games, and many players in KSA have made esports their primary source of income. As for the investments, they are estimated at billions of dollars from giant sponsors.

These are quick glimpses from the history of esports across the most important historical periods! The evolution of video games won’t stop here as industry leaders are promising us incredible technologies.

Though consoles and PC did amazing for mainstream games, mobile gaming is the next big thing in esports. 5 Easy Exercises for Gamers to Deliver a Top Performance

Esports has picked up momentum in the last few years, with their popularity reaching all age groups. The change in the scenario due to the pandemic has made gaming an integral part of everyday lives. With the advancement in gaming technologies, people are spending hours on end in front of their screens, immersed in the enchanting worlds of video games. Doctors and physicians now promote special exercises for gamers to combat physical and mental stress while competing in tournaments.

Are there exercises for gamers like other athletes?

For onlookers, playing online may seem comfortable, requiring minimum physical effort, especially as the player spends most of his time sitting on a chair or couch with the controller in his hands without having to move much. In fact, video gaming is no less dangerous than any other sporting activity in terms of pain and physical injuries.

With companies competing to offer games that make players spend long hours on gaming chairs, many gamers complain of physical pain like eye strain, injuries, muscle and joint pain in different areas of the body such as the neck, back, shoulders, spine, and so on. This is due to the lack of interest in fitness and neglect of regular exercise by gamers.

The increasing number of professionals and amateur gamers around the world has led to the interest of sports and health communities in educating esports players about the importance of maintaining their physical and mental fitness. They provide special exercises that help gamers maintain their gameplay while also being in good health.

Here are some quick exercises for gamers that can easily be done wherever you are:

Hand and Wrist Exercises

Hand injuries are the most common in gamers, including carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, and synovitis, due to overuse of hands and repeated pressure on the fingers and hand area during gaming.

Stopping for a while and practicing this exercise can help you avoid such problems:

  • Tape the palms of your hands together
  • Start with gentle pressure with your fingers up and elbows out
  • Keep your elbows in place and start lowering your hands. The stretching will increase and you will feel slight discomfort but without pain.
  • Hold this position for 30 seconds.

Shoulder Exercises

Among the most common causes of shoulder pain in gamers are wrong postures – leaning on the elbows while playing, or leaning on the knees and bending forward to look at the screen.

Take a short break from playing and start the following exercise:

  • Stand up straight with your arms at your side, with your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Slowly move your shoulder forward, making large circles
  • Repeat the movement backward until the set is complete

Neck Exercises

Like other physical pains mentioned above, wrong postures and prolonged gaming without a break can cause pain and stiffness in the neck.

The following exercise will correct your posture while playing:

  • Begin by tilting your head gently forward so that your chin touches the chest area, hold for five seconds, then return to the normal position
  • Turn your head to the left until you feel a slight stretch. Hold for five seconds, then repeat on the right side
  • Push your head forward until you feel a stretch in your throat. Hold for five seconds, then go back up gently
  • Gently tilt your head to the side while trying to touch your ear to the shoulder until you feel a slight stretch. Hold for five seconds, then go back gently. Repeat on the other side.
  • Start by massaging the muscles between your ears and your collarbone gently for about a minute.
  • Repeat this exercise two to three times on 3 or 4 sets

Lower Back Exercises

Low back pain is the second most common pain pattern in gamers, due to lack of movement, failure to adjust the screen at eye-level, or bending incorrectly during play, which leads to pressure on the spine and muscle strain in the lower back area.

Try the following exercise to release pressure on your lower back:

  • Sit up straight on the edge of the chair and lean forward slightly in the lower back
  • Hold both ends of the resistance band in both hands
  • Place your hands over your head, keeping your elbows aligned with your ears
  • Lean forward 45 to 60 degrees or as far as you can while maintaining your posture
  • Return to your starting point in step three
  • Repeat this exercise ten times on 3 sets

Cardio Exercises

Cardio exercises are some of the best ones a gamer can effectively practice to relieve stress, tension, and pressure during play. In addition, it works to improve their mental state before starting their favorite games!

The McGill University of Canada has presented wonderful research that indicates gamers who practice cardio exercises before playing do better than those who don’t.

Choose from the many cardio exercises like walking, jogging, skipping, climbing stairs, and more that’ll affect your gaming performance.

Accustom yourself to taking short breaks while playing. Experts recommend taking a 5-10 minute break every hour. These breaks will help your muscles relax after intense gameplay.

Mental Fitness

Speaking of a gamer’s physical fitness, we shouldn’t lose sight of the importance of mental fitness. A professional esports player, like any other athlete, needs ideal mental care that enables him to compete at the highest levels. With the tough competitive nature of a gamer’s life, often ending up in isolation to provide long broadcast hours, or to participate in huge tournaments to achieve important titles, an esports player may be exposed to psychological pressures more than others.

And so we’re here to remind you, that success never interferes with giving your mind some time to relax and move away from the screen for a little while.

Habits that help your mental health shouldn’t be overlooked. Don’t neglect your social life, enjoy weekends, meet up with close friends, hang out with family. This will increase your willingness to always give your best.

Always get in the habit of exercising during your daily routine to enjoy playing and achieving the highest scores🏆

5 Ways Gaming Technology has Evolved over the Years

Evolution of Gaming Technology Through Time

Human civilizations and societies have known games since time immemorial. You can imagine the evolution of gaming technology since the first game was discovered in Egyptian cemeteries, dating back to 3500 BC, through the first board game after the 17th century, which led to creating card and table games in vibrant shapes.

In the 20th century, Mrs. Elizabeth Maggie invented the Monopoly game and that’s when the board games industry started to grow exponentially. The first computer was built in 1937, nearly ten years later, computer scientists began designing simple games as part of their research, and the first-ever digital game was the XO game. After nearly 70  years, we began to look around and watch the development of electronic games, which began from a very primitive digital game to an accelerated revolution in the world of video games, with the future promising us a lot.

Mobile Gaming

Evolution of Gaming - Mobile

Mobile gaming has picked up momentum in the last few years. The change in the scenario due to the pandemic has made mobile gaming an integral part of everyday lives. Although led by gaming enthusiasts and pro gamers, it also boasts a dedicated user base of lifestyle gamers who subscribe to non-competitive mobile games as part of everyday routine.

The first mobile game was our classic Tetris, released at the beginning of the 20th century. After that, the famous Snake game was released on Nokia phones. Today, the App Store and Play Store are crowded with a huge number of games from varied genres. The development of the gaming industry has accelerated adaptation to new technologies.

Today’s games are more engaging and require powerful hardware to get the best experience. There’s an urgent need and a clear direction for the manufacture of mobile phones dedicated to video games that meet the desires of the players. Looking ahead of market trends, telo GameZ has launched the most technologically advanced smartphone. telo Gamez Lenovo Legion is the ultimate gaming mobile phone, specially designed for gamers who like to play on the go. Its revolutionary technology architecture has the world’s first customized horizontal UI, satisfying the aspirations of gamers everywhere.

Here’s everything you should know about Lenovo Legion gaming mobile.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

With the introduction of artificial intelligence into the world of games, we interact with greater enthusiasm because the course of the story and its endings are no longer exclusively one dimensional. It’s quite natural that your end is similar to the endings of other players by only 20%, and the gap between the similarity of the endings continues to expand. Thanks to the sandbox principle that allowed us to play in open worlds we’d never seen before.

In Watch Dogs, for example, the characters learn and interact with you in a smarter way. Be vigilant in your interactions, in this game the characters won’t forget your side troubles, and with the passage of time the game will become more difficult every time as if it grows with you.

In competitive games, playing against virtual players on the computer is no longer a trivial matter. Be ready to face opponents of your own level, who learn through you, as we watch now in FIFA 21.

Extended Reality (XR)

Extended Reality in Gaming Technology

Extended reality includes all gaming technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and reality technologies that haven’t yet launched. Imagine playing with these technologies in the amazing explorations that Ubisoft provided in Assassin Creed, which enables you to play just for adventure without the need to perform tasks. Immerse yourself in the exploration of ancient Egyptian civilization as if you were in the era of Pharaohs.

Let’s imagine you’re in the midst of a crowded port market, sun beaming in the sky, the voices of people surround you, cats hovering nearby and the types of commodities grab your attention.

It’s an opportunity to enjoy discovering a world from the present to the future and back in time to the distant past. Go on a journey that knows no boundaries of time and space whenever you want.

Below, you can watch an expedition by NatGeo to the frozen North Pole through virtual reality: https://youtu.be/QjLjeSQYQh4

Cloud Play – Play on Demand

All it takes is a screen and internet to enter a world of games stored in the cloud. Enjoy playing wherever you are and regardless of your device. It’s a real leap in the world of games, worth noting that there are few who speculate that cloud gaming will be the end of consoles.

Among the most famous gaming clouds are Stadia by Google, Xcloud provided by Microsoft for Xbox and PlayStation Now from Sony.

It’s in the Name

Games Industry – a leading website for news and all things gaming – once tweeted:

“Call of Duty earned more than twice the Marvel Universe box office, and double the Star Wars earnings.”

Players loved the development of characters’ dialogues, storytelling, graphics, and music, which caught the attention of international directors, composers, writers, and even actors, and many of them flocked to the gaming world. We saw Elliot Page in Beyond, Rami Malek in Until Dawn, and Norman Reedus in Death Stranding.

In addition, we’ve seen giants such as Coca-Cola and Red Bull now offer exclusive sponsorships for esports tournaments, not to mention the sponsorships provided to video game heroes and stars just like international celebrities, as the sites circulate their news and millions of fans cheer for them.

Finally, the big prizes for the tournaments indicate huge profits, like Dota, for example, in its tournament presented major prizes with a total of $34 Million.

Gaming technology is a lot more than it shows. It’s the next big thing in digital.

Without Ralph Baer, we wouldn’t know Video Games

Ralph Baer – The father of video games

Mobile gaming is the future of leisure time – as Newzoo pointed out, the mobile gaming industry is expected to top $100 billion by 2021. There’s no doubt that this era is defined by what game developers can fit in your pocket-size smartphones. Looking ahead of the market trends, telo GameZ has launched the most technologically advanced gaming smartphone, telo Gamez Lenovo Legion – specially designed for gamers who like to play on the go. The games have developed and advanced multifold from the time of its inception. Have you ever wondered who created the first gaming device on earth? Players around the world should thank Ralph Baer, the father of video games as he is called, who invented the kernel of the video game atom that never stopped fission, but rather accelerated and swept the whole world, generation after generation, to this day. Let’s read more about the inventor Ralph Baer, who opened doors to a new fictional world for us…

Who was Ralph Baer?

Baer was born in Germany at a critical period, before the outbreak of the Second World War, which prompted his family to move to the United States. A few years later, young Baer found himself working in an electronics company as a TV engineer. He thought of adding games as an additional feature to television screens and display them. His company needed to stay on par with other television companies, so the idea was rejected. Years passed as he worked for Sanders Associates, a company specializing in building military equipment, and the idea resurfaced. He wrote a letter and tried to use terms related to the company’s interest, as the term ‘games’ was used in the army, and this time he received support. His inventions didn’t stop after this creation, he contributed to the invention of the famous memory game Simon, in addition to 150 patents registered in his name.

Thinking outside the box and creating a magical one

His idea was a guaranteed start to an industry that exceeds $100 billion. In fact, the gaming industry outperforms the film and music industry combined. Ralph Baer worked on many prototypes before presenting what we see in the following picture, the first version of ‘Brown Box’ – the first home video game console licensed by Magnavox, which later became the blueprint for Magnavox Odyssey

The Red Door of Inspiration

In the basement of his home, Ralph Baer built a personal retreat. His workshop had its own character – a front wall, its own door, an address, and even a mailbox.

Ralph Baer's basement and his first workshop

In his late eighties, the museum wanted to acquire Baer’s workshop but he was still inventing, so the museum reached out again when he reached his nineties. They wanted to present his initial workshop set up in the museum and agreed to provide him with a much more modern workshop.

Ralph was sad when they packed the workshop and took it away to install it in the museum, yet he was excited that visitors from all over the world would be able to see the special place in his home that brought about the greatest innovation of his life!

Here you can see some prototypes and game consoles invented by Ralph Baer, which are currently housed in the National Museum of American History.

In 2014, Baer passed away at the age of 92. He once told PBS in 2013, “I am no different from a painter who sits there and loves what he does. Would you ask a guy who’s been painting all his life ‘why do you keep painting? Why don’t you retire?’ Retire to what? Stop painting? This is insane. Why would you want to do that?”

If we could look into Mr. Baer’s mind, I think we’d have an exciting ride in a world of adventure, thrill, games, and more! All thanks to his genius mind that paved the way for future gamers to follow, a gift of skill and talent.

Leading a promising future full of suspense and excitement for all gamers, we wonder how our favorite games would’ve been today without this historic invention!
